Tinubu is embodiment of Africa’s liberal democracy

•Sovereignty is not absolute, Jimoh Ibrahim tells the United Nations Global Parliament

The Senator representing Ondo South, Senator JImoh Ibrahim, CFR informed the United Nations Interparliamentary Assembly in New York yesterday that Nigeria’s Liberal Democratic foreign policy reflects African values, exemplified by President Bola Tinubu on the global stage through his commitment to cooperation and collaboration in geocentric politics. Ibrahim stated that, over nearly the past two years, President Tinubu has expanded the scope of African democratic peace as the chairman of the subregional organisation ECOWAS and as the leader of the African Union. As liberals, we engage in discussions with one another, recognising that sovereignty is not absolute.

Ibrahim asserted that no country can possess absolute sovereignty, as international actors are interdependent. He posed a question in the UN Parliament concerning whether other nations have immigration policies that effectively prevent diseases from being transmitted or erosion, such as COVID-19, from visitors to their territories. No single nation can control standard emails. Ibrahim urges the global parliament to foster collaboration and cooperation for world peace. As an executive member of the African Parliament and ECOWAS, he stated that both parliaments would respond to all resolutions made at the UN Parliament with a commitment to collaboration, aiming to eradicate poverty. He argued that a policy centred on human democracy is fundamental to President Tinubu’s Hope agenda. Ibrahim served as the Acting President of the Interparliamentary Union in Geneva in 2023.
