The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former Osun State Governor, Chief Bisi Akande and APC National Vice Chairman (Southwest) Chief Pius Akinyelure arrived Akure, the Ondo state capital today.

Speaking to journalists after the closed door meeting with Fasoranti, Tinubu flanked by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu said he came to visit Fasonranti as a foremost leader in the south west region.

He said Fasoranti is a respected Yoruba leader who deserves much respect, care and support especially in his present age.

When asked if it was for political realignment ahead the 2019 elections, Tinubu insisted his visit was private to seek Fasoranti’s wise counsel on a number of issues.

On the plethora of endorsement for President Muhammadu  Buhari especially by some governors, for the 2019 elections, Tinubu said he was not aware of such.

While saying such moves were preemptive, when the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC had yet to fix guidelines for the polls, Tinubu said anybody that would fly the party’s ticket for the 2019 polls, would emerge through credible primaries.

He however said no law would be violated if the National Executive Council of the party and members come together to endorse Buhari as the sole candidate.

Governor Akeredolu on his part earlier told journalists at the airport that the visit to the state by the party’s national leader was a private one.

Also speaking to journalists, Pa Fasoranti said the Tinubu visit would signal a new dawn for the region.

He expressed optimism that things would now move faster for the region as a number of contentious issues are being sorted out as a fall out of the meeting

Afenifere leaders at the meeting include the group’s Secretary General, Bashorun Seinde Arogbofa, Chief Olu Falae, Chief Femi Aluko, and Hon. Bakkita Bello.

Tinubu, Akeredolu, his Deputy, Agboola Ajayi and others who were part of the close door meeting, later drove to the government house.

The APC national leader and his entourage later departed for Abuja alongside governor Akeredolu aboard a chartered flight.

The APC leaders were received by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu at the Akure airport.

Tinubu is on a private visit to Pa Rueben Fasonranti, leader of pan Yoruba sociocultural group, Afenifere.

Present at the airport to welcome the APC leaders include the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, Acting Chairman of the party in Ondo state, Ade Adetimehin, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale, Constitutional lawyer, Tunji Abayomi, Seinde Arogbofa, Information Commissioner, Yemi Olowolabi, Commissioner for Land and Housing, Donald Ojogo among others.
