Scores of traditional worshippers on Thursday carried out spiritual appeasement in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government in Ondo State, in the bid at seeking the face of the Almighty  creator, in the restoration of peace and harmony in the ancient community.

The worshipers comprises of nine different groups  which include members of the Natural Traditional Medicine Practitioners, herberlists,  hunters, Orunmila, Sango and Obaluaye, worshippers, Ogun devotees, members of the Reformed Ogboni Confraternity, Masquerades (popularly referred to as Egungun in local parlance) , were dressed in white cloths, armed with different charms and sang songs in Ondo dialect, as they moved from one spiritual spot to another in the town.

However, before the commencement of the traditional rites, the worshippers had earlier converged  on the palace of the paramount traditional ruler of Ondo kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Dr Victor Kiladejo, where they offered prayers for the peace and progress of the community.

The traditionalists, which included women later left the palace in a possession to various locations in the town in places which include Odotu, Oreretu, Odosida, oke odunwo, Odojomu, Legiri and Okelisa among others, where they chanted incantations while performing the rites.

The Hope reliably gathered  from a reliable palace source that the spiritual  appeasement , which took place in the community , was aimed at complementing similar exercise , that were carried out by the Christian and Islamic worshippers recently in the town.

He also  disclosed that the assemblage of the traditionalists, which is coming on the heel of recent  happenings occasioned by the sudden  increase in the number of cult activities and other crime, which occurred repeatedly  in quick succession and has been a source of concern to inhabitants of the notable  Yoruba town, necessitated  the spiritual exercise.

The possession which caused gridlock as vehicular movement was disrupted for several hours .The ceremony later came to climax after series of rituals and prayers were rendered at several traditional spots which include Ogunlerin shrine at Odojomu, Idi-Ishini, Oyeen and Luwa rivers located at Okelisa and Lisaluwa streets respectively in the town.

Speaking on the development, one of the traditional chiefs in Ondo community, Chief Kolawole Akinbileje, the Liyemaja of Ondo kingdom, commended the Osemawe -in-council  for approving the prayer and  lauded the participants for their patriotism and love for the community.

He used the occasion to appealed to trouble makers to have a change of heart, so that the good name for which the community is known is not drag into the mud.

Also in his comment, a leader of  one of the spiritual groups that took part in the exercise, who gave his name as Chief William Adegbonmire, explained that the spiritual appeasement activities was undertaken in order to compliment the efforts of the law enforcement agencies, in their bid at ensuring the safety of lives and property in the town.

Also in her contribution a female traditional worshippers, Chief Ajoke Alagbara, an Olokun diety  devotee, said the activities was organised in order to seek the face of the Almighty God popularly referred to as Olodumare in Yoruba parlance, for the restoration of peace in the community.
