Unto every human being is apportioned a time. A time to sow, a time to reap, a time to be born, a time to die, a time to be young, a time to age, a time to sorrow and a time to joy.

I received with shock, the news of the demise of Mrs Elizabeth Fagunwa, the matriarch of the illustrious D.O Fagunwa Family of Oke Igbo, Ondo State.

Mama Fagunwa was well known to me, having like our own parents, fallen into the category of the first class parents, teachers, humanists and cultural conservationists whose missionary zeal and committed works define the true essence of Ondo State people.

She led a true life of a true Matriarch with attention to welfare, development and emotional stability of all who came into contact and fraternity with her.

Her devotion to her late husband, our father, mythical icon and literary giant Late Daniel Olorunfemi Fagunwa throughout his sojourn on earth, remains a perfect example of the true meaning of matrimonial peace, friendship and support.

She was a true lover of culture, continuity, human vitality and social renewal whose commitment to an improved condition of society is too dear to lose at this time.

Our solace lies in the facts that her warmth and vision for society will continue to guide our quiet moments of introspection on our dreams, vision and commitment to Ondo State.

The hearts of the Government and people of Ondo State go to the immediate family of children, grand children and the great grand children and indeed Nigeria as a nation, for the loss of this great amazon from Okeigbo, the hill of mystical treasure.

May God bless her gentle soul.

Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN
Governor of Ondo State
