Our good people of Ondo State, Lassa fever Outbreak has been active in the State since 2017.
Since the beginning of this year a total number of one hundred and two suspected cases were reported in eight Local Government Areas of the State.
Laboratory result has been received for seventy nine of the cases while the result of the remaining cases are still pending.
• Thirty-six out of the seventy-nine cases with laboratory results have been confirmed with nine deaths recorded.
• One hundred and twenty-seven Hospital Contacts and three hundred and eight Community Contacts were line-listed as at today 3rd February 2018 in all the affected Local Government Areas while thirty has completed their follow-up.

We have taken the following steps to contain the spread of the disease.
1. Emergency Preparedness and Response Team has been reactivated at both the State and Local Government levels.
2. Active Surveillance is going in all the 18 Local Government Areas with contact tracing in the affected Local Government Areas.
3.Sensitization and Community Mobilization are going on in all Local Government Areas. Traditional rulers, religious leaders, political leaders, market women and other stakeholders are being sensitized.
4. Publicity is also ongoing through radio jingles, radio and television discussions in our media houses.
5. Information, Education and Communication materials such as handbills, flyers and posters have been produced and these are being distributed.
6.Expansion of the Infectious Disease Isolation Unit at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo is being done through the support of our administration.
7. Vehicles have been dedicated for transportation of samples and referred patients to Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospitals, Irrua, Edo State.
8. Some Personal Protective Equipment, PPE, Drugs, and hospital beds were donated to FMC, Owo to support the management of the patients.
9.Some Nursing Staff were also released to the Treatment Centre to support the management of the patients.
I wish to commend the Non-Government Organization, Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA), UNICEF, WHO and Nigerian Centre for Disease Control for their support. I must also appreciate the Health Personnel of both Ondo State Health Service and Federal Medical Centre, Owo for their commitment.
Our good people of Ondo State, it is pertinent at this moment for everyone of us to take necessary preventive measures to contain the dangerous disease ravaging our land and these include:
1. People must desist from spreading food items in the open so as to prevent contamination by rat.
2. All environments must be clean; all bushy surroundings must be cleared.
3. No bush burning in order not to drive rats and other dangerous animals to our homes.
4. All deaths must be reported and permission sought before burial.
Our administration remain committed to the provision of accessible and qualitative Health Care. The life of our people remain sacred.
Thank you for listening
