SOLA EBISENI:The Profile of an Exceptional Leader
Ebiseni is a Human Rights activist, lawyer, politician, Chancellor Ilaje Diocese, Anglican Communion. Born and raised in Ogun state to parents of Ilaje Ondo state origin and traversed Ibadan, Lagos, Nsukka, Ile-Ife in his formative years and in search of sound education, Chief Nehemiah Olusola Ebiseni is a blend of many cultures which prepared him for future national endeavors devoid of parochial, restricted and localized sentiments.
His students’ activism in the 1980s which started at the University of Nigeria Nsukka and climaxed at Great Ife took him to virtually all higher institutions in the country then where he interacted with, members of his generation across the nation. This progressive pan Nigerian attitude he brought to play when at the age of barely 30 and one the youngest in the country he was elected Chairman of the dual linguistic and cultural former Ilaje/Ese Odo LG comprising the Ilaje Yoruba and the Ijaw ethnic nationalities which he administered without any iota of discrimination or dichotomy in his appointments and project locations.
He rehabilitated all Primary Schools and distributed exercise books to all pupils in both primary and secondary schools; gave bursary to all students in higher institutions, sponsored through scholarship over 300 students of the LG at both the Ondo state Schools of Nursing and Health Technology to kick start his rural health programs most of whom are top level civil servants today. Among those employed or developed in other cadres are also now DLGA,HPM, Treasurer, Engineers etc. Built Comprehensive Health Centers in each of the 10 wards. Other landmark projects include markets at Igbokoda, Arogbo, Ipoke, Igboegunrin etc, electricity foot bridges, jetties, affordable mass transit boats and buses, customary court, library, Marine Police Station,(old Post office).
Represented Ondo state LGS at the World Conference of Local Authorities in Oslo Norway 1991; most publicized Chairman of his time which further brought Ilaje and Ese Odo to lime light; Surveyed Araromi- Mahin-Ugbo Road in 1992, now Olokola-Alape-Ugbo Rd; also surveyed Igbokoda- Orere Ara Rd 1992, opened up Itamerin- Gada- Kiribo Rd. A cursory look at his cabinet shows ( a) V.C Toyo-Apoi (b) Secretary Uroaye/Iyapo- Ugbo;(c) Leader of Council- Egbunu-Arogbo now Chief Registrar of the state Customary Court of Appeal; (d) Supervisors: Anifowose now Director OSOPADEC -Ugbo, Gbenro Tomiye-Ugbo, Dabo-Apoi, Etinkhumo-Arogbo, Enikansaye-(Riskey) now a school principal-Ugbo, Tunde Ayemo ex Ondo MHA – Etikan, Press Officer Owosanni – Ugbo. Not a single Mahin from where he is said to hail was in his cabinet compared with other leaders who for sectional reasons consider people of their kingdoms in appointments, training or employment; most political juggernauts in Ilaje and Ese Odo today were developed, employed or they took bearings during the Ebiseni years as Chairman of these wonderful riverine and coastal peoples.
No wonder Olugbo honored him Atayese of Ugboland, Agadagba decorated him Ibedubamowei (Atunluse) of Arogbo Ibe and Kalasuwe made him Otunbaleye of Apoi land. Ebiseni mobilized the people of Ilaje / Ese Odo in the national campaigns leading to the recognition of Ondo state as oil producing when he was chairman in 1992; the beautiful Ilaje National Anthem which serves as their covenant of unity was proposed by Ebiseni first to the National Association of Ilaje students when he was not even holding any political office in 1996 and adopted at the larger conference of Ilaje people in 1998?
He was appointed Director Oluwa Glass Company, Chairman of the state Law Commission, 3 times Commissioner by 2 different administrations, outstanding delegate of the 2014 National Confab where this renowned lawyer convinced the nation that it was in Araromi Ilaje Ondo state 1908 and not Oloibiri Bayelsa 1956 that oil was first discovered in Nigeria. Like the biblical Nehemiah Governor of Jerusalem, Nehemiah Olusola Ebiseni’s calling to the governorship of Ondo state is divine, his mission and vision are focused on the generality of the people of Ondo state whose service he has been in the larger part of his adult life. He is enabled by the Lord’s mercy.
