Religious crisis portends danger to Nigeria’s existence – Mimiko
The Ondo state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko says lack of religious harmony in some parts of the country is a dangerous signal to the cooperate existence of Nigeria.
Mimiko spoke in Akure on Sunday in his remarks at the 2nd plenary session of Opening mass of the Mass of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigerian CBCN 2016
The well attended opening mass held at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Akure has many dignitaries including members of the Ondo State Executive Council, Catholic Archbishops Bishops across Nigeria, large congregation in attendance.
The event had cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie and cardinal John Eniayekan in Attendance.
He said government has a responsibility to curtail religious bigot in the country and urged religious to continue pray for the nation saying that the problem of corruption facing can be addressed with the right policy in place but that inter religious conflicts may lead the country to more danger that the country not survive
“Government has responsibility of bringing these bigots to book. We are not comfortable with what the bigot is doing. What they are doing is most worrisome in Nigeria. Church has major role to play by praying for Nigeria ”
Mimiko who charged the churches to always stand up when they see abuse of the secularity in Nigeria said all must stand to resist the few bigots who want to destroy Nigeria added that deepening inequality in the society also fuel radicalism in the society.
He used the avenue to call for true federalism saying that the federal government is bitting more than it can shew with the larger percentage of the resources at its disposal to the detriment of the federating units.
The Governor who commended the Catholic Bishops in Nigeria for what they stand for said what the country lacks is focused leadership.
He however said that he can give account of his stewardship to the people of Ondo State since he came to board Seven and half years ago.

Commended the cooperation between the church and the Government of Ondo State .
He said Mimiko-led administration is making Ondo State people happy through provision of good roads, ,Infrastructural Development, ,Quality Health Care ,Urban Renewal among others.
He however said a lot should be done by the Federal government to alleviate the current economic hardship on the masses and that the country should not be ruled with sentiment and canvassed for equality.
The President of Catholic Bishops who advocated for an inclusive governance in a bid to fast track national development said various issues confronting Nigeria has been raised with President Muhammad Buhari when the Bishops visited him last May with assurances that, he would act soon.

Prof Sylvester Adegoke who commended the bishops for the opportunity to serve the assembly said the bishops have collectively done Nigeria proud.
He commended their courage in nations building through timely intervention when the country is faced with challenges stressing that, they should continue to pray for the nation to achieve the desired goal and objective.
