Communities in the Oil Producing Areas of Ondo State have been urged to take ownership and responsibility of Government projects in their domain to protect them from the destructive acts of vandals.


OSOPADEC Chairman, Barr. Olugbenga Edema, gave the charge on Wednesday at Ode-Mahin while meeting with stakeholders to inform them about the activities of the Commission as well as generate inputs from them in his bottom-top approach to development.
A well-attended and highly praised initiative, the forum pooled representatives from all the major communities of Mahin, Aheri and Etikan Kingdoms with the paramount ruler of Mahin Kingdom, Oba Lawrence Omowole, the Amapetu of Mahin, personally in attendance.
Other Communities in attendance include: Ipare, Orioke-Iwamimo, Ogogoro, Abereke, Oropo, Abe-Alala, Agerige, Ode-Etikan, Ereke and Atijere.


Besides the joint requests presented to the leadership of OSOPADEC comprising sand filling of major towns, construction of roads (inter and intra) such as Aboto-Atijere and Agerige-Zion Pepe roads, rehabilitation of Schools and footbridges, completion of electrification projects, building of health centres and town halls and arresting of sea incursion – individuals spoke for their various communities.
In his response, the Amapetu of Mahin, Oba Lawrence Omowole canvassed support for OSOPADEC leadership, urging the people to be patient as well as prayerful, for the Edema-led Board.
Other royal fathers in attendance include; the Odede of Igboegunrin, the Regent of Etikan land, the Malokun of Atijere, Representatives of the Maporure of Aheri and an array of Baales and Chiefs.
Secretary of OSOPADEC, Dr. Victor Koledoye, who gave the vote of thanks, appreciated the people for the impressive turn out.
