Physical Planning, a major thrust of this administration – ODSG
In furtherance of the Ondo state government’s effort in making physical planning a major thrust of its administration, the government has magnanimously approved the emplacement of special court (mobile court) to take care of all contraveners and at the same time, ensure that all development intentions, guides, designs and proposals are subjected to the rules, procedures and current operative policies.
This was disclosed by the Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Prince Solagbade Amodeni, during a stakeholders meeting held at Akure, on the use of special court in the prosecution of contraveners of physical planning laws.
The Commissioner noted that due to gap created by the prolonged embargoes on both Physical construction along the corridor of Arakale (in 2010), and Processing and approval of filling stations (in 2013), developers took laws into their hands and constructed without recourse to physical planning rules.
On this note, Amodeni assured that sanity will be injected back to the society as the once moribund Physical Planning Task Force has been reactivated and named, Physical Development Enforcement Squad ( PDES), equipped with the full complement of security personnel to carry out a plan audit of all existing structures including the ones that sprang up during the lacuna created by the long embargo and contraveners will be handed over to the mobile court to deal with as appropriate.
He maintained that government will rather maintain its integrity rather than allow substandard structures to be put in place at the detriment of people’s lives, his words ” on integrity test, there is no looking back, we will rather loose properties than loose lives”.
The permanent Secretary, Mr Alaba Adeyemi (mni), earlier in his welcome address implored all stakeholders to take active interest in achieving the desired objectives of the administration concerning physical planning. He enjoined all present at the meeting to participate meaningfully and seek clarifications on the new policies so as to be able to have good understanding of them.
The meeting witnessed presentation of papers on “The new Arakale Corridor”, “Development permit procedure and townplanning standard ( Gas and Petrol filling stations)”, “Importance of layout in Physical Development and the management of Open Spaces”, and the “Use of Special Court ( Mobile Court), Physical Development Enforcement Squad (PDES) and the essence of approval before construction”
