Philadelphia City Council honours Mrs Akeredolu

The Philadelphia City Council, the legislative body of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has honoured the Wife of Ondo State Governor, Her Excellency, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu in recognition of her outstanding commitment in saving lives, giving hope, increasing survival and awareness in Nigeria, in the fight against breast cancer as a life threatening disease in Nigeria through Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria BRECAN.

The Seventeen man Council under the able leadership of Darrell L. Clarke as President, in a unanimous presentation at the Philadelphia City Hall also observed that the Sunshine State First Lady has also contributed meaningfully to mankind by creating opportunities for youths, women and children to contribute to the socioeconomic development of their communities through her private foundation, Betty Anyanwu- Akeredolu Foundation, BAAF.

The Council of the city of Philadelphia is pleased to honour and recognize the Honourable Betty Anyanwu- Akeredolu First Lady of Ondo State in the city hall of Philadelphia on July 23, 2018.

Whereas, the Honourable Betty Anyanwu- Akeredolu is the wife of the 6th executive Governor of Ondo State, Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu and the founder of the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN), a leading NGO that is galvanizing action against breast cancer in Nigeria, which was founded as a result of her experience with breast cancer; and

Whereas, Mrs Anyanwu- Akeredolu was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 1997 and that same year, she underwent treatment and surviving the ordeal became her driving force to start BRECAN, a nonprofit organization with the mission to bring about positive and lasting change in the deeply entrenched misconception about what causes breast cancer and how it can be treated,… ”

The Council also commended her on her many accomplishments.

Responding, Mrs Akeredolu expressed happiness at the council’s gesture and pledged not to relent.
