The Management of Ondo State University of Science and Technology, OSUSTECH, Okitipupa says the citadel of learning is on course at producing the required technological manpower to make Nigeria a competitive player at advancing global science and technology.
Speaking at the maiden visit of the University Management Team to the Ondo State Governor, in Akure, its Vice-chancellor , Professor Robert Ogunduyile appreciated the present administration for its commitment to the infrastructural scale-up of the institution within the 100days in office of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu which had brought out the university from eight years of neglect.
While expressing displeasure that OSUSTECH had for eight years remained a one-faculty university, the Vice-chancellor explained that efforts were on to realise its dreams of new faculties for Agriculture, Engineering, Earth Science and ICT to complement the technological aspect of the university.
He explained that the inclusion of more faculties would enhance the university population and thereby compete favourably with its counterparts elsewhere.
Professor Ogunduyile who acknowledged the recent assistance of the State Government which had enhanced the status of the citadel of learning in knowledge acquisition said the assistance equally facilitated the
relocation of members of the university community to the permanent site, a move which according to him, had addressed transportation problems of students and staff.
The Vice-chancellor informed the university visitor that seventeen out of the twenty-one structures in the university campus were yet to be completed, whereas if only six of the structures were to be fully completed,the university would be better positioned to deliver on its mandate .
He pleaded with the State Government to assist the university on the provision of electricity, a computer based centre and perimeter fence to ward off all forms of encroachment into the university land.
In his response the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, assured of his administration’s support towards making the Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa ,OSUSTECH, attain the status of a full fledged university.
The governor who is also the visitor to the university informed that in no time, a Governing Council would be put in place for the university.
The Governor used the opportunity to call for a collaborating partnership between the university and the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, for further technological advancement and competition which would make the institution a cynosure of all eyes.
Arakunrin Akeredolu however advised friends of the university, the university itself through direct labour and Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, OSPADEC, to rise to the aid of the university for its development.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Oil and Gas, Mr Benson Enikuomehin joined the Governor to receive the OSUSTECH Team.
While the University Team included the University Registrar, Mr Felix Akinnusi; Bursar, Mr Kehinde Oladeji and Librarian, Mrs Adesola Alade.
