Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, OSOPADEC, may partner up with the State agency for the control of AIDS – ODSACA – to quicken the HIV service uptake in the oil producing areas. Specifically , the two bodies may synergize to promote testing and counselling for HIV, eliminate mother to child transmission and treat the virus.
The Secretary to the Commission, Dr. Victor Koledoye, gave the hint at a meeting of the Commission with the agency when the agency paid a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters at Oba-Ile.
Earlier, the Project Manager of the agency, Dr. A. Adegbulu had informed the meeting that HIV service uptake was low in the mandate area of the Commission.
He said only 0.6% and 0.2% of Ilaje LGA and Ese-Odo LGA respectively had been tested as at 2016 for the virus. He also said that there were only eleven functional sites for the elimination of mother to child transmission and HIV testing services in the area, while only one site was available for anti-retroviral therapy.
Also present at the meeting were: the Chairman of the Commission, Barr. Olugbenga Edema, Director, Finance & Administration, Apostle Akinsola Orisamoluwa and Director, Community Welfare, Mr. Wale Mafolabomi.
