OSOPADEC boss tasks workers on cooperative services

 The Chairman of Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Hon. Olugbenga Edema, has charged workers of the commission on the need to utilise fully the platform of its cooperative society to upgrade their economic status.

Edema gave the charge at the weekend while addressing workers of the commission at the 11th Annual General Meeting (AGM), of the OSOPADEC Staff Cooperative Multipurpose Society, held at the commission’s Head Office in Oba-Ile, Akure.

While noting that the essence of a cooperative society is to offer financial support among several other benefits to its members, Edema described the OSOPADEC Cooperative Society as a virile and strong one.

The Chairman added that the desire of the management of the commission is to ensure that every member of staff has a house and other basic necessities of life before retirement.

Edema who described the commission’s workforce as the vehicle that propels its vision and mission, called for team spirit, unity and dedication from the commission’s workers in the discharge of their duties.

Also speaking at the meeting, the Director of Cooperatives in Ondo State, Mr. Braiye Williams appreciated all members of the cooperative society for their unflinching support to the executives.

Represented by the Deputy Director of Cooperatives in Ondo State, Mrs. Christianah Agunbiade, Williams, who averred that cooperative society offers financial support to all members in times of need, stressed the need for the workers to grow the society.

He enjoined members of the society to always contribute their maximum quota to its progress through regular savings and adhere strictly to the society’s rules and regulations.

Williams commended the efforts of the executives of the society in the area of membership drive, stressing that the membership strength of the society has increased drastically.

He equally commended the accountability and transparency inherent in the accounts of the society.

Earlier in his speech, the President of OSOPADEC Staff Cooperative Multipurpose Society, Mr. Ayo Igbasanmi, expressed delight as all indicators of performance showed that the society recorded significant progress in year 2017, assuring that the growth pattern will be sustained in 2018.

Igbasanmi disclosed that the aggressive membership drive of the society’s executive committee resulted in an increase in the membership strength of the cooperative society from 165 to 286 within one year.

He added that some nominal members of the society equally got transformed into vital financial members while all cooperators moved to higher levels of contributions and borrowing.

Igbasanmi assured that members’ savings are safe and are being put into productive uses.

He acknowledged the supportive roles of the management of the commission to the society, stressing that the commission’s management has been demonstrating a healthy and sustained interest in the progress of the society.

Igbasanmi equally appreciated the state Director of Cooperatives and his officials for the conscientious oversight functions they have been performing for the society.

Handsome dividends were later distributed to members.
