… promises to nurture, develop young tennis talents.
The 2023 Ondo State Summer Tennis Clinic Committee was inaugurated today, 3/08/23 by the wife of the Governor, Chief Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu. The annual event, a project established by the First Lady of Ondo State, aims to groom future tennis champions. It is now in its 6th edition .
Speaking virtually at the ceremony held at the Government House Ground in Alagbaka, Akure, Arabinrin Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the founder of the TennisClinic, expressed her gratitude to the 2022 Management Committee, led by Hon. Olamide Falana, the Special Adviser on Gender, for their exceptional organization and execution of previous year’s clinic which was held in the state’s three senatorial districts. She encouraged them to continue in their good stride.
Emphasizing the importance of the event, the First Lady informed the newly inaugurated committee that her absence should not hinder the planning and success of the clinic. She highlighted the positive impact the Summer Tennis Clinic has had on participants, noting that trainees have been excelling in the southwest zone.
“Though we cannot do this year’s edition in all the zones, it will be done in Ondo Central hopefully next year we will take it to the South and North. The most important thing is that something is happening this summer for the children.
“Communities and parents have bought into this idea and their children are looking forward to it,” Anyanwu-Akeredolu said.
In her address, the Chairperson of the 2023 working committee, Mrs. Falana, expressed her gratitude to the First Lady for entrusting her and the committee with the responsibility of organizing another successful event.
She acknowledged the First Lady’s dedication to harnessing the talents of young individuals, stressing that tennis, like any other sport, holds lucrative potential.
“There is a demand for this activity, every long vacation, parents look for something their children can do. They look forward to activities that are educational, informative and things that will build up their children’s vitality.
“This is one of the things the Tennis Clinic stand for. It is a place where children come together to learn about tennis and tennis as we know is a world renowned game. We want our children to pick careers in sport, it doesn’t have to be football and basketball alone.
“Very soon we will begin to harvest great talents from here and export them to other parts of the world courtesy of the Ondo State Summer Tennis Clinic,” the Committee Chairperson said.
Reflecting on the 2022 Tennis Clinic, the Committee Secretary, Mr Kehinde Odogun highlighted that over 3,000 young participants across the state’s three senatorial districts had benefited from the program.
August 30th to September 8th was announced as the new dates for the
2023 Summer Tennis Clinic.
Appealing for financial and material support, Falana urged well meaning individuals to help sustain the vision of the Tennis clinic.
She noted that with the inauguration of the 2023 Ondo State Summer Tennis Clinic Committee, the expectation is high for yet another successful event that will continue to nurture and develop the tennis talents of young individuals in Ondo State.
