Ondo School of Health matriculates 1,006 students

Ondo State School of Health Technology on Thursday matriculated no fewer than 1,006 students into various departments of the school for 2017/2018 academic session.

Speaking at the matriculation, Dr Wahab Adegbenro, the Commissioner for Health, said that the school would be soon translated to College of Health Technology.

Adegbenro, who was represented by Dr Taye Oni, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, said that the state government was aware of the school’s challenges,saying government would address them all.

The commissioner added that total overhaul was ongoing in the state health sector, which he said would enable all health students to be engaged after their graduation.

According to him, the state School of Nursing and Midwifery will be integrated into University of Medical Sciences,Ondo,saying that the students can further their study there for degree certificates.

He urged the matriculating students to focus on their academic targets and not to be distracted.

” You must know that health is wealth but this wealth is about making impacts, comfort for people.

“It’s when you are hardworking that money naturally comes and build on your skill,” he said.

The commissioner earlier inaugurated block of 4 classrooms and 6 offices building built by the school.

Dr Felix Olawoye,the Principal of Ondo State School of Health Technology, said the school had zero tolerance for all manner of vices ranging from cultism, hooliganism and examination malpractices.

According to him, the school was established to provide low and middle level manpower in the health sector to drive laudable health programme.

Olawoye warned the students that the school would not hesitate to wield its big stick on any student culpable of these vices.

He noted that his office was opened to all for complaints from students and parents on administration of the school,saying it would stem tide of misinformation and its concomitant effects.

The principal appreciated the state government for its efforts in moving the school forward, commending other stakeholders such as parents, guardians, school staff and student bodies.

” Ondo State School of Health Technology, Akure students pay the least fees in comparison to its contemporaries in the southwest geopolitical zone.

“This paltry sum is what is being utilized for the developmental projects that dotted the landscape of the school since the present management came on board,” he said.

He appealed to general public to be of help to enable the school surmount its challenges especially infrastructure, saying that the government could not do it alone.

Olawoye noted that the Pharmacy Technician Department which was oblivion for about two decades for obscuring reasons, had been resuscitated.

He added that the school was longing to bring diploma courses in Community Health Extension Workers and Health Information Management departments.

Miss Opara Future overall best student in probation examination and was given free tuition scholarship for period of her study with N 25,000.
