Ondo PDP governorship flag off: Jegede to make economy sole philosophy
Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, Ondo’s governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 26 governorship election in the state, has promised to prioritise economy and make it a sole philosophy.
Mr. Jegede said this while addressing army of party members and supporters at the flag off of the PDP’s campaign in today, in Akure, Ondo State.
He said, “Our desire is to create prioritise economy and make it a sole philosophy, thereby ensuring the prosperity of our State. Our vision is to leverage on the skills of our Civil Servants and create a partnership between the public sector and the private sector in order to grow our economy and create jobs for our people and prosperity for our State.
“We shall leverage on the geographical location of our State as a corridor and route to both the North and the Eastern part of the country to build a new and robust commerce both on our land and coastal areas.
“I hold no fear and will not be overwhelmed by the challenges imposed by our weak and troubled economy, I am worried about the reluctance of our adversaries who neglect or refuse to share our courage and enthusiasm to overcome the present challenges. None the less, we shall work with all those who believe in our vision. Our vision is to grow the economy of our State.
Jegede also mentioned his plan to industrialise the state, saying ” I believe we must industrialize. I am resolute about it, for this we must plan. Our planning shall include provision for energy supply for our industries and a reservoir of raw material base. That is where our agricultural potential and natural resources become important and critical. We have looked at why the old industries failed. We desire to resuscitate those old industries and bring new industries on board through a workable, transparent, fair, public private partnership. God our help.
“We will build a new philosophy of farmers first. This is the only way to provide for food security, create employment for our people and bring revenue to Government.
He added, ” We shall develop a policy that will enable our farmers have immediate and adequate reward for their toil. A deliberate policy that will give our farmers comfort will be our guide. We will encourage our people to create cottage industries around our agricultural potentials. We will maximize the agricultural value chain for economic growth.
“We shall be committed to helping our parents bear the burden of Education. We shall continually and systematically address the infrastructural challenges in the education sector.
“We shall partner with genuine individuals and organizations to offer our young ones opportunity of a good education recognizing that government cannot do all. Government policy will be to provide education for all at subsidized cost.
“We believe that a new way to address our employment challenges is to invest heavily in infrastructural development. We shall tackle headlong the challenges that we face in our efforts to build and maintain our urban and rural roads. Our people deserve accessibility to safe portable drinking water. We shall not rest until our taps function more effectively.”
Our primary focus shall be the welfare of the people. All obligations of Government to the people and the public service will be met. The gains in the health sector will be preserved, and we shall increase on our basic health facilities and other specialized health facilities across the State.
Eyitayo Jegede who was presented with the PDP flag by the National Secretary of the party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said the new economy that we envisage will guarantee prosperity and growth. We are prepared and ready to provide solutions to all emerging challenges.
Meanwhile, governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state and his Ekiti state counterpart, governor Ayodele Fayose urged the people of Ondo state to be vigilant and guard their votes come November 26.
