Ondo First Lady tasks NCWS on unity, inaugurate caretaker committee
The wife of Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has charged members of the National Council of Women Societies ( NCWS) to always work on unity and harmony in order to move the organisation to a greater height.
Arabinrin Akeredolu made this call yesterday in Akure while performing the inauguration of caretaker committee of NCWS Ondo state chapter held at Government House in Akure.
She admonished them to always make the welfare of women in the country as number one of their priorities, explaining that she was glad that God made the day a reality.
“I am glad that this day is here and we have done the needful to steer the ship of NCWS of Ondo State which will make the chapter effective and efficient.
“I knew what NCWS was when I was young because my mother was a member. Since it is not political or religious based, we should be able to demand what will be done for Nigeria women in general and Ondo State women in particular to better their lots so that the objectives of the organization can be achieved. I can promise you that this chapter is the one to beat.”
While giving the brief history of NCWS, the National President, Dr Labaran Gloria Shoda, who was represented by the organisations first National Vice President, Hajia Lami Adamu Lao, explained that the NCWS which is not political or religious started in Ibadan in 1952 by four women and in 1954, the council registered with International Council for women and became the official Council of Women Society in 1958 with members in all the 36 states of the nation.
While speaking on the organization’s aims, she said: “We initiate and execute projects ranging from women education, promote cause that can enhance women generally among others. We are in Ondo State to form a caretaker committee, so that they will be able to organise and handle the affairs of the Council for the first three months.
“We are also here to solicit the support of Her Excellency so that the women nominated will be able to move the organization forward in the next three months.”
Some of the executives nominated are: Hon Omowumi Olatunji as the President, Mrs Gilda Amata as the Secretary among others.
Hon Olatunji in her closing remarks revealed that they were overwhelmed for such a great opportunity that was rare even as she promised on behalf of other members of the committee to put in their best to move the NCWS in the state forward in accordance with the organization’s constitution.
She also appreciated the concern of the Ondo state First Lady for women generally.
“Her Excellency always want women’s impacts to be felt across the state. She believes that women should no longer sit in the kitchen. I want to assure you ma, that on behalf of my members, you have the best hands. We will work earnestly to move the chapter forward.”
