The Ondo State Executive Council has made known its decisions after its weekly meeting on the execution of some projects across the state.

Speaking to Government House Reporters in Akure, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Femi Agagu reiterated the commitments of the present administration at making the Sunshine State an enduringly comfortable place for all residents.

He said the Executive Council approved the 2013-2016 capital projects of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB comprising of 519 Lots at a cost of Three Billion, Nine Hundred Million Naira (#3.9b). The Commissioner added that the approved projects were those advertised few months ago .
The meeting presided over by the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, according to the commissioner also approved some road projects which include: the 15km Ijoka-Idanre road awarded to Lee Fakino Nigeria Limited, at the sum of 3. 67 billion naira.

The dualisation of the 4.16km Ikare Township Road awarded to RCF Nigeria Limited at the rate of 5. 5 billion naira was equally approved at the meeting.

Also mentioned in the approvals of the State Executive Council was the rehabilitation of 22.7km failed portions along Akungba-Iwaro-Oka-Epinmi-Isua Road awarded to RCF Nigeria Limited for 499 million naira.

Speaking on the approvals of some of the projects of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, OSOPADEC, Mr Agagu stated that the Executive Council considered and approved the revised estimated cost of the1.4km Swampy section of Okitipupa-Ayeka-Irele Road which was awarded by the immediate past administration few months before it left office at the cost of 1.23Billion Naira.

“The Road was awarded by the immediate past administration a few months before it left office for 1.23 billion naira, the Contractor wrote back for a revision due to the under-estimation of the cost.

“This issue lingered on for a while and a stakeholders meeting was called where various issues were examined, after which a memo was sent to council which finally approved a revision from 1.23 billion naira to 1.34 billion naira”,he said.

Another approval granted OSOPADEC on its projects, according to the Education Commissioner, was the downward review of the estimated cost for the 28.5km Aboto-Atijere Road Project, from 12.3 billion naira to 8.8 billion naira to, Messrs Zhijang Construction Limited.

Mr Agagu said the contract was also awarded by the immediate past government at the twilight of its administration through Contractor/ Client financing process which was unacceptable to the present administration in view of the obvious contravention of the due diligence principle inherent in the state’s contract process.
