While addressing the gathering, vice- chairman of the Committee, Hon. Mohammed Taofik Oladele, the lawmaker representing the good people of Akoko North/West, Constituency ll, said the incident was very messy and terrible.
” It is very messy. Such incident would not have happened in civilised clime like U.S.A. where much value is placed on human lives, just like Yoruba society. The students, especially the new in-takes should not take up accommodation in bad locations. This year’s rain is unprecedented; we should avoid habits that would affect our environment “.
However, he cautioned against indiscriminate dumping of waste on waterways. He also appealed to parents to visit their children at school regularly to know what they do and where they live.
The lawmaker promised that the House will come up with legislative instrument to forestall re-occurrence.
