Omogbehin Attends 34th Session of UN Human Rights Council
The lawmaker representing Okitipupa /Irele Federal Constituency, Honourable Mike Omogbehin, is one of the Nigerian lawmakers currently attending the 34th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)
The summit, which is holding at the Palais des Nations, in Geneva, Switzerland, will come to an end on March 24.
During the session, high-level discussions will be held on various human rights related issues, such as: the right to privacy, rights of persons with disabilities, rights of minorities, and rights of children.
In an electronic mail sent to his media office, Omogbehin assured of representing Nigeria well and more importantly be a worthy ambassador to the people of Okitipupa /Irele Federal constituency during the summit.
Among issues listed for attention today were human rights abuses in some African countries such as Congo Republic and Gambia. Also on discuss was the petition from the Shiites sects against Nigerian Government.
The Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe and for addressing situations of human rights violations and make recommendations on them. It has the ability to discuss all thematic human rights issues and situations that require its attention throughout the year.
At the end of today’s summit various resolutions were reached which would be signed and passed on Friday.
