Okada Operators get ID card, jacket as security behind policy
The Ondo State Government has begun the issuance of identity card and jacket to Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators in the state.
Starting with the operators in Akure South Local Government Area, the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr Doyin Odebowale said the development would make riding commercial motorcycles or tricycles in the state without the approved means of identification to be illegal.
Dr Doyin Odebowale stated that the identity card and the serially marked jacket which were produced for each rider in the state would help to beef up security as the items were not transferable.
He added that in no distant future, the State Government would equally provide vests to the cyclists free of charge aside the serially numbered Jackets .
While urging them to behave themselves as critical stakeholders in the transport subsector, Dr Odebowale assured that with the aid of the items, the criminally minded persons among them will face the wrath of the law if they refuse to desist from their nefarious activities.
He advised the riders to be law abiding especially by observing road codes and regulations at all times and enjoined the riders not to withhold information in case of suspected criminals in their domains
Appreciating the State Government for the Issuance of the ID card and Jacket to the cyclists, Merssers James Oladele and Oladiji Oluwatobi promised to be law abiding in the discharge of their duties.
They however hoped that security agencies in the state would see them as partners in progress in the transport subsector of the state economy by allowing them to operate with peace of mind.
