Ondo State Commissioner for Agriculture, Otunba Adegboyega Adefarati has expressed the readiness of state government to partner with relevant agencies and organisations to ensure that the people of the state have access to hygienic and disease free meat.
The Commissioner made commitment while receiving representatives of the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, during a courtesy call on him in his office.
He said adequate control of diseases in animals is crucial to human health as most the diseases affecting humans could be traced to animals.
Mr. Adefarati said the state government was determined to ensure that animals brought into the state or slaughtered for human consumption are free of diseases.
The Commissioner assured the visitors of the state government’s readiness to partner with their organization (FAO) in ensuring adequate sensitization on disease control and hygienic meat.
The FAO team led by Mrs. Nifesimi Ogunkua said they were in Ondo State for awareness and sensitization campaign on Rinderpest disease eradication among cattle breeders.
The team later presented some mini radio sets to the Commissioner for distribution to members of Myetti Allah cattle breeders association and slaughter houses in the state to enable them listen to a national radio programme on disease control and eradication.
