The Ondo State Government has promised support for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in the state programmes in the state.

Akeredolu said this on Wednesday in Akure when the Chief of Field Office,Ondo UNICEF, Mr Tejinder Sandhu paid him a courtesy visit at his Alagbaka office.

The governor said his administration is committed towards ensuring good environment through committed sanitation programme.

Akeredolu said toilets in houses are not that popular in Akure, according to UNICEF findings, but promised to work on it by providing public toilets at strategic locations.

He promised to release counterpart fundings when necessary to support the organisation.

“You have come out with your report and we want to thank you for a job well done.You have identified the great strides the state has taken in terms of advanced health initiatives.

“It is a plus to the last regime,we must thank them (last regime) for putting our state at this enviable level,” he said.

Earlier, Sandhu said he would advise the state government to embark on a sanitation campaign with the support of UNICEF.

He noted that the stare has by far the most advanced health initiative that could not be matched by any state of the country.

Sandhu later unveiled one of the 600 neo-natal resuscitators to be put to use in various parts of the state to the governor.

He later urged the governor to hell with the challenges being faced for release of counterpart funds for projects in the state.
