Ondo State Commissioner for Sports, Saka Yusuf Ogunleye and chairman of Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA), Otunba Tajudeen Akinyemi have clarified Duke Udi has not been sacked as Sunshine Stars coach, but asked to step aside for gross insubordination.
The clarification was made at a joint press conference held at the governor’s office conference hall, Alagbaka Akure on Wednesday.
A statement delivered at the press conference read inter alia:
“First, coach Duke Udi has said a lot of things that are not truly correct about us in the media and to set the record straight, so that the people will not be misinformed this press briefing became necessary.”_
“Rising from an extended urgent meeting of the Club’s management board and representatives of the sports ministry, a decision was taken to ask coach Duke Udi to step aside in his role as the Club’s Head Coach._
“The stepping aside is pending the final determination of the allegations levelled against him”_
“We think it is now important to list some of the wrongdoings of coach Udi;_
1. _Gross insubordination_
2. _Refusal to receive and respond to queries_
3. _Disrespecting constituted authorities serially_
4. _Discord in his relationship with players and officials and high handedness._
5. _Disregarding the press men by ignoring post match conference severally_
It added: _”In view of the development, Technical Director of ODSFA, Henry Abiodun has been redeployed to take charge of the team with immediate effect pending the determination of the issues levelled against coach Duke Udi.”
Abiodun is to be assisted by coach Kayode Julius.
“Sunshine Stars call for the usual cooperation and support from all stakeholders as the Club move towards its goals and objectives with renew commitment and dedication.”_ The statement further read.
Coach Udi had since been served with the notice to step aside as Sunshine Stars Head Coach, a letter he again refused to accept or receive.
