Niger Delta Development: VP Osinbajo To Lead Stakeholders For 2nd Regular Meeting In Akure
The second regular meeting of the National Council on Niger /Delta will take place in Akure between Thursday September 7 and September 14. 2017.
The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osibajo, Governors from the Niger/Delta region, members of the Federal Executive Council, as well as members of the National Assembly Committee are expected to grace the occasion
Others expected at the meeting which will be organised by the federal ministry of Niger Delta Affairs in collaboration with the Ondo State Government were, Chief Executive Officers of International Oil and Gas Companies operating in the region, Development Partners, Leaders of the Pan-Niger Delta Elders Forum (PANDEF), Youth Leaders as well as several Stakeholders within the region.
According to a statement from the official site of the organisation and signed by one Moses Okpo, a Director at the office of the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Niger Delta, the meeting with the theme: “Fast tracking the Development and Peace of the Niger Delta Region: Option and Prospects” is the second edition to be held since inception of the President Mohammad Buhari-led administration in the country.
The event will take place at the International Event Centre (The Dome), located along Federal Secretariat, Akure the capital of Ondo State.
The Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osibajo is the Special Guest of Honour.
The event which will be co-host by the Honourable Minister for Niger/Delta Affairs, Pastor Uguru Usani and his counterpart from the state for Niger Delta/Affairs, Professor Claudius Daramola, while the Chief Host is the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
The statement further explained the National Council on Niger/Delta is the highest policy making and advisory body to the Federal Government of Nigeria on development policies, programmes and strategies to tackle security problems and provide a sustainable framework for developing the Niger Delta
Giving the breakdown of activities that would be featured during the week-long programme, which would be strictly by invitation, the statement said 7th of September will be arrival and registration of Technical Committee members.
On Friday 8th of September, a keynote address will be delivered by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) Hon. Gbenga Edema, a Technical Committee meeting will later be declared open by the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu this will later follow by a cocktail party at about 7:pm on the same day.
The programme will continue by 9th and 10th of September with Technical Committee Meeting and later an exhibition to be entitled “Treasures of our Land”
While the Technical Committee Meeting would be concluded with registration of council members on the outcome of the meeting by their officials.
Others activities include which the meeting scheduled for 12th of September that day a keynote address will be delivered by the Honourable Minister for Niger Delta, Pastor Uguru Usani and the MNDA. Shortly after this, the arrival of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osibajo, would be the next line of action where he is expected to declare the council meeting open and later hold a town hall meeting.
On the same date the HMS and the MNDA will do the vote of thanks. On 13th of September the meeting will be concluded by a council meeting, where the communique of the meeting will be presented at a press briefing.
The climax of the meeting will be a visit to the Tourist Centers within the state on 14th of September, shortly after a dinner by 7:pm while departure will September 15th
