The Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, SAN has confirmed that he would be contesting the November, 26 governorship election in the State.

Jegede made the assertion while playing host to the newly inaugurated executive members of the State Chapter of National Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, in his office in Akure, the State capital today.

While saying his candidature depends on the forthcoming primary election of his party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the State, the Commissioner expressed optimism that he was not only in the race to contest but to win.

“I hope to give the race my best legitimately and legally. Not only am I in the race, but we expect to win by God’s grace and the support of our people’ he said.

Noting the present decline in the economy of Nigeria generally at the moment, Jegede said his interest in government at this time is for service to his people.

‘ I have three goals in government; they are economy, economy and economy. We intend to take Ondo State to a level where we not depend on the dole out from the Federal Government to a state where we will use our available resources for economic development’ he emphasized.

Reacting to the call by NAWOJ’s for legal protection for women, Jegede who decried all forms of infringement on the rights of women, noted that laws were in place to protect women, saying though they may need to be brushed up.

Earlier in her address, the Chairman of NAWOJ, Mrs Shola Omotosho had called for more involvement of women in politics and government.

She said the visit was to solicit the partnership of the ministry with her new Exco, pledging the support of the association whenever necessary.
