The Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Oleyelogun Bamidele David says the death sentence on hate speech will not enjoy full legislative support across board.

The Speaker who was fielding questions from House of Assembly correspondents noted that meting out capital punishment to offenders of hate speech is not in the best interest of democracy.

” The proposed bill should rather be tailored towards enhancing constructive criticism that will be acceptable by all and sundry and not inimical to the growth of democracy”.

The bill on hate speech is being proposed with a view to guarding against misinformation and derogatory speech.

The Speaker who is also the chairman, conference of Speakers in the South West noted that the death sentence approach to the bill will not allow democracy to thrive.

He added that the bill should be tailored towards enhancing constructive criticisms that would enable stakeholders to work hand in glove to tackle hate speech in Nigeria.

The Speaker who used the medium to welcome Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu back from vacation noted that the Governor has returned with much vigour to work for the progress of the state.

He pledged çontinued support of the lawmakers to the executive towards ensuring delivery of democracy dividends to the people.

The Speaker encouraged the people of the state to continue to support Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for more development projects to thrive in Ondo State

Rt. Honourable Oleyelogun also congratulated the kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the Bayelsa state Governor-elect, Mr David lyon and the APC family on their victory in the recently concluded governorship elections.

Rt. Honourable Oleyelogun added that the APC led government at all levels would continuously work for the uplift and development of the Nation.
