The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has passionately pleaded with his colleagues in the six states of South West Nigeria to work assiduously as a group at harnessing the avanlache of potentials in the Sunshine State in order to open up the states for greater economic prosperity for the benefits of the people in the region.

The governor who was addressing the summit of Western Nigerian Governors Forum in Lagos said Ondo State has diverse agrarian potentials including large land mass for cultivable crops,  economic trees like Cocoa, Rubber and Timber.

He added that the state is blessed waterways with the deepest and longest coastline in West Africa for deep sea port and numerous mineral resources which if harnessed, are capable of turning the region to an economic hub that will geometrically develop the  areas rapidly.

While equally acknowledging the potentials of other states, Governor Akeredolu said what one state lacks, the other has in abundance, thereby making the integration of the region desirable.

“What Lagos has in water, some of us have more on land. Some of us also have water. I’m more particular about my state. And I want us to look at it.

“We need to make a point in this country today. And it is not because I’m Governor of Ondo State.

“I have always said that if all of us  can come together as a group to make a case for a seaport that will be of International Standard, such  that will be a hub for the whole of West Africa.

” It will mean a lot to the region because of the multiplier economic activities that will follow”, he said.

Governor Akeredolu who said he was aware of the pressure on the existing Apapa Ports and the efforts to develop a new port in Lekki Lagos, stated that both are on shallow waters unlike the suggested Deep Sea Port on the coastline of Ondo State which will be on a naturally deep waterways without any obstructions.

“We can make a case for it and it will open up our entire areas and all of us will benefit from it, he reiterated.

Arakunrin Akeredolu also used the opportunity to speak on the efforts of his administration to effectively link the Niger Delta States and Southwest States through the construction of a multi-billion naira road from Araromi seaside in Ondo State to Ibeju Lekki in Lagos State.

The road according to the governor will make travelling from Lagos to Ondo State be less than an hour.

The theme of the meeting: “Consolidating the Legacy of Regional Integration”, which is a follow up to the one held last year in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital will be for two days and is being attended by the governors of Ogun State, represented by the Deputy Governor, Chief Yetunde Onanuga; Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi; Lagos State, Akinwumi Ambode, who is the host;  Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola; Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, with the Management Team of ODUA Investment Group, DAWN Commission and Vocal Officers of the Integration Agenda of the Western Nigeria from the six states.

Each of the governors took time to espouse the achievements and potentials that will make the proposed integration a rewarding partnership to the region.

In his welcome address, the host governor, Mr Akinwumi Ambode had appreciated the resolve of the other states to admit Lagos State into the ODUA group.

” The admittance of Lagos State into the Odua Investment family is indeed a significant mileage in our quest for economic integration of the Western Nigeria.

” It is our hope that working with all other members, Lagos State will be able to help in catalyzing a momentous growth in the economic activities of Western Nigeria through, but not limited to, the instrumentality of Odua Investment Group.

” I also wish to use this opportunity to thank you all, my dear brothers, for kindly admitting Lagos into the fold, Governor Ambode said.
