Gov. Akeredolu wants Police Area Command in Ondo Southern Senatorial District as new AIG resumes duties in Zone 11
Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has made a case for the establishment of an Area Command of the Nigeria Police in the Southern Senatorial District of the state.
Speaking while playing host to the the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 11, comprising Oyo, Osun and Ondo States, Mr Agboola Oshodi-Glover, said most security issues in the area have not been well attended to because of the distance between the area and Ondo City which is in the Central Senatorial District but being made to cover the south of the state.
Arakunrin Akeredolu who suggested that the area command be situated in Okitipupa which is central to the district used the opportunity of the AIG’s visit to enjoin the police to provide adequate security to keep the menace of kidnapping out of the state.
The governor said incidence of kidnapping was becoming a major source of concern to the people and government of Ondo State.
“These miscreants are trying to infiltrate our state and its only the Police that can guarantee our security”, the governor said.
Earlier, the new AIG Zone 11 based in Oshogbo, Mr Agboola Oshodi-Glover had assured the governor of the preparedness of his men to ensure adequate security for the state.
“I also come to talk to my men ( in Ondo State Command), ginger up their spirit and intimate them with instructions from the Force Headquarters”
“They are in high spirit and are ever ready to work and give their best for the security of the state and the nation,” the AIG said.
The entourage of the AIG included the State Commissioner of Police, Mrs Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison and senior officers of the Ondo State Command.
