Gov. Akeredolu reiterates commitment to security as ten surveillance boats commissioned for Naval Patrol
The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has once again demonstrated the commitment of his administration to the security of lives and property across the state.
Speaking at the commissioning of ten Surveillance Boats for Security Patrol along coastal communities of the state by the Naval Forward Operational Base, Igbokoda, Governor Akeredolu said it was a deliberate decision of the State Government to step up security across the state to boost the confidence of both residents and genuine investors now streaming into the state.
Governor Akeredolu used the opportunity to assure Security Agencies of government, the resolve of his administration to continually corporate with them to be able to deliver on their respective mandate of getting the entire state secured particularly the waterways.
While commending the high level of professionalism exhibited by members of the Armed Forces during the just concluded state brand of the Amnesty Programme which gave several repentant militants to surrender theirs arms and ammunition, Governor Akeredolu said his administration will not encourage the use of private security personnel to police the waterways.
Arakunrin Akeredolu called on all the repentant militants who embraced the just concluded State Amnesty Programme to keep faith with his administration as it was striving almost on daily basis to get the Federal Government to integrate them into the Federal Government Amnesty Scheme.
“We have no reason to lure you into surrendering your arms without concrete plans for you.
“We have done our bit. We appreciate your cooperation . We are waiting for the Federal Government to act on your inclusion into the Amnesty Programme.
“Be rest assured that you will not regret your decision to have surrendered your arms”, he said.
In his address of welcome the Deputy Governor who was the Chairman State Amnesty Programme Committee, Hon. Agboola Ajayi appreciated the unequalled commitment of the governor to the success of the amnesty programme.
Hon Ajayi used the opportunity to state that his committee in concert with Heads of Security Agencies in the state and the support of the governor had done what was required to give the repentant militants new lease of life.
The Commanding Officer of the Naval Forward Operational Base, Igbokoda Captain Sambo T. Lengaya appreciated the governor for the kind gesture and promised the continued cooperation of officers and men in the command to the State Government.
Ondo State which has the longest coastline in West Africa subregion is part of the Niger Delta Area of Nigeria in view of the fact it is an oil producing state.
Crude oil is produced in the two Local Government Areas of Ilaje and Ese-Odo that cover the coastal areas of the state.
