A Road Walk Campaign to sensitize youths on major consequences of Drug Abuse has taken participants to the nooks and crannies of Akure the Ondo State Capital.

The campaign tagged “Kicking Against Drug Abuses Among Youths in Ondo State” was organized by the Ondo State Government; a non-governmental organization, Evergreen Global Initiative and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

Presenting participants of the Road Walk which include students of secondary schools and tertiary institutions in the state, to the Ondo State Governor in Akure, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Gbenga Adelayi said the campaign was a response to the physical impairment, psychological imbalance , social and economic  derailment observable in the character and conduct of youths traceable to abuse of drugs.

He enjoined the youths to live drug free lives to enable them realise their aspirations.

The Ondo State Commander of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Mr Mohammed Malamin Sokoto advised the youths to stay away from all forms of drugs not prescribed by competent Medical Practitioners.

Mr Sokoto specifically mentioned that a particular straw-candy in the market contains a substance known as methampitamine which he said was more injurious to the body than cocaine.

He said continuous consumption of the drug would make its consumers useless to themselves, families and society.

Addressing the youths, the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, advised them against all forms of drug abuse as such could truncate their ambitions.

The governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon Ifedayo Abegunde pointed out that the State Government would continue to fight the scourge of drug abuse to ensure that the state remains the best place for the actualisation of the potentials of young people.

Governor Akeredolu appreciated the collaboration between the organisers of the campaign and assured that his administration will continue to welcome impactful initiatives that will genuinely prepare the youths for leadership roles in the years ahead.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale;Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo and other top government officials attended the programme.
