Ondo State Government would continue to encourage individuals and organizations whose core values are to advance the course of societal development.
Speaking while playing host to the District Governor of Lions Club International District 404A1, Nigeria, Lion Olatunbosun Okopeseyi in Akure, the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, said his administration and the Lions Club are on the same page in the service to humanity.
The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Chief Olugbenga Ale noted that his government was not unaware of the several assistance being made by the club to some of the needy homes in the state.
“Lions Club is not strange to us. We are very conversant with what you stand for. We appreciate and commend the contributions of your association to the development of our society.
“We acknowledge your immense contributions towards the development of Ago-Ireti Leprosarium, its inmates and other special homes in the state.
” We plead that you continue to alleviate the plights of the underprivileged.
“It requires a lot to pick up this type of assignment where you are not remunerated and with the primary aim of pure service to humanity and development of the society.
“Apart from what you contribute in terms of finance and other resources, you also devote your time and resources which could have been spent on other profitable ventures, “he said.
Governor Akeredolu assured that his administration would not hesitate to assist the club to enable it continue its salutary services to the less- privileged in the society.
Earlier the District Governor, Lion Olatunbosun Okpeseyi had lauded the resolute posture of the administration of Governor Akeredolu on service to people of the state.
He said Lions Club as a service and humanitarian organization, understands the fact that government cannot shoulder the responsibilities of the society alone and hence its interventions for meaningful collaborations.
The District Governor specifically mentioned that activities of the Lions Club were targeted at delivering services to the vulnerable , the needy and more importantly, to the underprivileged ones within the communities who do not have the capacity to repay any good gestures at making life worth living for them or say ‘thank you’.
Lion Okpeseyi expressed the hope that many less privileged ones in the society would have had a better life, if the privileged ones have lent hands of assistance to them.
Highpoint of the event was the decoration of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro as members of the Lions Club.
The District Governor was accompanied on the visit by his spouse, Lynda; 2nd Vice District Governor, Lion Adekunle Adedipe; Past District Governor, Lion Tokunbo Jegede; Wife of the former Military Vice President, Lion Rebecca Aikhomu and some of his Cabinet members.
The Head of Service, Mr Oluwatoyin Akinkuotu who is also a Lion member joined the Governor Team to receive the visitors.
