The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has reiterated the desire of his administration to close the gap between the hinterland and urban centres.
Arakunrin Akeredolu stated this at the official presentation of cheques worth One Hundred and Sixty-Seven Million naira to 19 communities to kick-start various self-help projects across the 18 Local Government Areas in Ondo State under the Community and Social Development Project Additional Financing, anchored by the Ondo State Community and Social Development Agency.
The Governor commended the adoption of bottom-up community-driven approach in project implementation process which had provided the people with resources and authority to drive development efficiently and effectively.
According to the governor ” It is our plan to involve all stakeholders in the selection, implementation an monitoring of our programmes and projects”. Adding that the selected communities must own the projects by sustaining them.
While appreciating the contributions of the World Bank and other Development Partners for collaborating with Ondo State and assuring on continued mutual relationship, Governor Akeredolu enjoined the communities to judiciously utilise the fund to deliver quality projects within timeframe for the wellbeing of the people.
Earlier in his address the General Manager, Ondo State Community and Social Development Agency (OSCSDA), Mr Bosun Ogundipe has stated that the World Bank-assisted Community and Social Development overall goal was to improve access of the poor to services for human development.
According to him, “the projects developmental objective is to support empowerment of communities and local government authorities for increased access by the poor people to improve social and natural resource infrastructural services in a sustainable manner.
He used the opportunity to commend the Governor for his commitment to better the lots of people of the State both in rural and urban centres.
Dignitaries with the governor at the occasion include: the Deputy Governor, Hon. Agboola Ajayi ; Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oloyelogun; Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde; Chairmen Caretaker Committees in the 18Local Government Areas in the state; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale ; Oba Akadiri Momoh, the Olukare of Ikare with his Olori; some traditional rulers and prominent community leaders.
