The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN has disclosed that the Niger Delta Development Commission ,NDDC, has released over ₦600 million towards the completion of the Omotosho Power Plant project.

Governor Akeredolu who confirmed this while playing host to the Chairman Board of NDDC in Akure said on completion of the project Ondo State would be linked to the National Grid which would supply power to the Southern Senatorial District of the state and which had been without light for more than four years.

While saying that stable electricity supply had been one of the major concerns of people of the state, particularly the people of the Southern Senatorial District, for years now, Governor Akeredolu said the commitment of the NDDC through the release of the fund was highly appreciated.

Arakunrin Akeredolu also said the economic activities of the South Senatorial District would receive a significant boost by the time Araromi-Ibeju-Lekki road was completed.

“If the south is linked up to the commercial nerve of Nigeria and to access Lagos becomes less than an hour to achieve, then activities in the area will change.

“There is no way the area will not change for the better. With that road, it will be the beginning of progress in the south.

A Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, was signed between the Ondo State Government and NDDC on 5thApril , 2017 to construct a  multi billion naira 51 kilometer Araromi-Ibeju-Lekki road project.

“This is a legacy project and we will give it all we can. Few banks have shown interest to support our own part of the road”, he said

Earlier the Chairman, Board of NDDC, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba, SAN had said the commission has come to flag-off a project that will symbolise the partnership the NDDC promised the good people of Ondo State.

“You will recall that soon after the inauguration of this commission, we paid you a courtesy visit where we promised to change the narrative of the commission by operating in the spirit of partnership with member states rather than competing with them.

“If you look at the act establishing the NDDC, it is supposed to drive the operation of an integrated regional economy for the Nigeria Delta region.

“This implies that the underlying spirit should be that of partnership rather than competition. Today, we are going to flag-off the flagship of this partnership by the construction of the Araromi-Ibeju Lekki in Lagos State, being jointly done by Ondo State Government and the NDDC”, he said.

Senator Ndoma-Egba who said the commission has been accused several times of not completing its projects assured that he was ready to change that impression.

He added that as a commission it has enjoyed the friendship and support of the governor and government of Ondo State and would as a result reciprocate the good gesture to depict them as dependable partners.
