FUTA has all it takes to lead Nigeria’s Technological Advancement – Ondo State Education Commissioner
The Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA has been described as a force to reckon with in the field of technology in the global arena. The commissioner for education, Ondo state, Mr. Olufemi Agagu made the declaration while inspecting the new Akure Tech Hub site located at the Botanical Garden of FUTA. Agagu said all is set for the official commissioning of the Tech Hub, an initiative of FUTA , the Ondo State Government and Emerging Communities Techup Initiative, (Akure Techup).The project which began few months after the inauguration of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as the Governor of Ondo State is now ready welcome its first set of participants and jump start what is expected to be a technological hub that will stimulate innovation , development and marketing of ICT related configurations as well as the training of tech whiz kids who will be able to hold their own in the ICT world.
Satisfied with the facilities at the Tech Hub which is due for commissioning as part of the activities marking Akeredolu’s first year in office, the commissioner said “we are glad FUTA has fulfilled its part of the MoU. We are impressed and also ready to make it work. Ondo state government is education friendly and also technologically savvy. We want to train our youth to become one of the best in the area of Information Technology and we know FUTA has the capacity for this. FUTA has been a blessing to Nigeria, especially Ondo state. Mr. Governor and the entire citizens of Ondo state value the importance of education, particularly the relevance of technology globally. That is why we are ready to partner with reputable institutions like FUTA. We know you have the intellectual know-how to build and develop our youth for the future. So, we are absolutely ready to make this Tech Hub business a unique one. We know it will build in our youth entrepreneurial skills that will make them inventors and job creators instead of job seekers.”
Receiving the commissioner on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship (CENT), Dr. Ayo Ajayi said FUTA has both human and intellectual resources to build great leaders for the future. He said “our university is a force to reckon with in higher education in Nigeria and globally. We have our products spread over the world with good skills, impacting the society. So, we are absolutely sure that this Tech Hub partnership with the state government will be a huge success that will add value to Ondo state and Nigeria. FUTA has been building great entrepreneurs and we won’t relent. We have some of the best crop of experts in ICT and our students have built several apps and continue to do well in the sector”. Dr. Ajayi and his team from CENT took the Commissioner and his entourage round the university’s innovative centres which included CENT’s skills acquisition centre, the Centre for Renewable Energy Technology (CRET), a Zero-net power generating centre with no connection to the national grid and the students recreation centre purely designed to be managed by students so as to inject business and managerial skills in them for the future.
