The residents and road users of Newtown area of Oke Aro in Akure today expressed relief over the constant flooding of the road after a group of youth cleared the drains in the area.

The group, Eyitayo Youth Organization, cleared about 200 metres of the drains which had been blocked by debris and causing constant flooding in the area.

About 25 members of the group and a few casual workers hired by the group, spent about 7 hours on the project, which was hugely applauded by the people and motorists.

Speaking at the site, the State Coordinator of the group, Mr. Lade Fasua, said the clearing of the drains was to flag off the Community Service initiative of the group.

He said the group would embark on such community service project every weekend and will soon be extended to other parts of the state.

Fasua said the group chose to start with clearing of drains because of the incessant flooding in some areas of the town due to heavy rainfall.

The Eyitayo Youth Organization is a support group for Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, the governorship candidate of the PDP in Ondo State.
