FADAMA III AF REVIEW MEETING: GOV. AKEREDOLU URGES STAKEHOLDERS TO PLAY THEIR ROLES IN MAKING AGRICULTURE PROSPEROUS

Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has called on stakeholders in Agriculture in the country to brace up for challenges in Agriculture and play their expected roles so as to make the venture a prosperous one.
The Governor was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Agriculture, Mr Akin Olotu at the opening ceremony of the two-day review meeting organised by the National Fadama Coordination Office, Abuja for Community Development Officers and Rural Finance and Livelihood Officers at Grand Capital Hotel, Akure, Ondo State.
Governor Akeredolu emphasised the importance of the Federal Fadama Community Associations, describing it as one of the greatest achievements of the Project. He made a particular reference to the Project’s initiative on Agricultural Equipment Hiring Enterprise which management is bestowed on the Federated Fadama Community Associations. He urged the existing research institutions in the country to brace up in the area of research and development so that Agricultural business can be boosted for eventual national economic development.
The forum anchor Officer and the Rural Institutions Development Specialist from the National Fadama Coordination Office, Dr. Gbenga Arokoyo, appealed to Ondo State Government to emulate other states that supported the Project’s Agricultural Equipment Hiring Centres with procurement of additional tractors in their respective states.
Dr. Arokoyo thanked the State Government for always identifying with the Project. He announced that the review meeting is very important as a way of ensuring compliance with the implementation guideline of the Project along component line.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Segun Odusanya used the occasion to call on agro-businessmen and other stakeholders to step up action and do more towards meeting local consumption. According to him, a lot more need to be done in terms of investment in Agriculture as there is still a wide gap between what Nigerians consume and what is produced annually.
The State Project Coordinator, Fadama III AF Mr. Olusiji Olatunji and the Programme Manager, Agricultural Development Project Mr. Sola Adeniyan had earlier welcomed the participants who were drawn from all over the country to Ondo State. The Programme Manager, ADP pledged the ADP’s cooperation with the Project to deploy best hands in rural development concept and extension services in order to realise the Project development objective.
