Erosion Threatens To Wipe Out My Community -Omogbehin
The lawmaker representing Okitipupa Irele federal Constituency, Hon Mike Adeniyi Omogbehin, has lamented that erosion is threatening the existence of various communities in Okitipupa Irele federal constituency.
Presenting a motion of urgent need to tackle the severe erosion gullies. The lawmaker noted that the life-threatening natural disaster is caused by non-availability of good drainage system and adequate modern bridges in the affected areas.
He further notes that the severity of this continuous environmental problem has almost swept away bridges in C.A.C Urelejare area of Ikoya, Gbagba at Igbotako and Oniju area of Iju-Odo, thus making living in these communities unbearable and undesirable.
Worried that erosion gullies caused by flooding has now impacted the environments of the affected communities negatively, resulting to the displacement of people from their ancestral homes, and significant portions of agricultural farmlands are constantly being washed away by the perenial flood and crops totally destroyed.
Omogbehin expressed fears that if urgent steps are not taken to control the erosion menace now, people will be permanently displaced and the communities affected may be wiped out.
The motion which was passed as moved was refer to appropriate committee for further legislative actions.
