Barrister Bolaji Odidi, a United Kingdom based lawyer and an Ilaje APC chieftain has expressed his satisfaction over the new appointment of Hon. Gbenga Edema as the Chairman of Ondo state oil producing area development commission (OSOPADEC), as well as the nomination of Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa into the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as member representing Ondo state on the board. He congratulated the two Ilaje icons on their elevation, noting that their appointment was well deserved.
Hon. Odidi said the appointments made so far by the administration of Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu has shown the resolve of the Governor to be a fair minded Governor whose government is poised on correcting lopsided appointment of the past. While describing Aiyedatiwa and Edema as men with wealth of experience who are suited for the beats on their hand, Odidi added that the appointment of Hon. Gbenga Edema reflect equity, fairness and justice. He noted that over the years, the Kingdom of Mahin had appeared left in the lurch in the political scheme of things as regards the oil politics of the Coastal area of Ondo state, yet the Akeredolu government has chosen to restore the confidence of an average Mahin person as a bona-fide of Ilaje nation with the announcement of Gbenga Edema as the substantive Chairman of the board of Osopadec.
The APC stakeholder and financier of the party in Ilaje local government, however, made it clear that the 13% derivation accruals to OSOPADEC is meant for the development of the entire Ilaje/ Ese Ode nation and not for a particular Kingdom, hence his advice to the new OSOPADEC Chairman to ensure that development projects under his tenure cut across all the catchment areas so as to justify the trust reposed in him by the state government.
Odidi also called on Ilaje youths who are expressing misgivings over the appointment to embrace peace, noting that if it had been the turn of Ugbo in the time past, it is not a bad idea if the lot falls on a Mahin person to chair the board. Odidi called on the new Osopadec Chairman to promptly reach out to warring factions so that peace can be sustained in the oil producing area, stressing that the appointment of Gbenga Edema is a welcome development, which has come to stay.
