Wife of Ondo state governor Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu wants Ondo State Government to establish a fully equipped cancer treatment centre with a Radiotherapy machine in Ondo State.

Mrs. Akeredolu who is also the founder of Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria BRECAN made this demand today in Akure during the press Conference organized for the forth coming BRECAN Ondo State chapter launch scheduled for Tuesday 23rd may 2017.

Mrs. Akeredolu who is also a breast cancer survivor of over 20years said the Ondo State chapter launch is an extension of BRECAN’s humanitarian services which is ongoing in other parts of the country.

She said is a way of giving back to the society Akeredolu said the fight against breast cancer in Nigeria is something everybody should be concerned about because it concerns important set of people in the society ‘the women’.

On why she is so concerned about this medical issue; Mrs Akeredolu said ‘’The reason is not farfetched, am a survivor, am using my experience to say you can survive breast cancer, you can beat breast cancer.

She add that information made her overcome and she was challenged to help other people to overcome too.

She said she defiled all factors posing a threat to her speaking up on the issue as a survival and started this crusade because she doesn’t want any more women to die because of breast cancer.

On advice to doctors and other medical practitioners; Mrs Akeredolu said not all doctors can handle breast cancer, and advised that doctors who are not fully trained to handle such should as a matter of urgency refer the patients who presented to them to a specialist.

While speaking on the cost of cancer treatment Mrs Akeredolu agreed that cancer treatment is very expensive in Nigeria and added that early presentation (Stages 1 and 2) is relatively affordable.
