A KEYNOTE ADDRESS DELIVERED BY THE WIFE OF THE GOVERNOR OF ONDO STATE, Her excellency,
Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu DURING THE BACK-TO-SCHOOL VISIT AT AUGA COMMUNITY GRAMMAR SCHOOL, AUGA AKOKO, AKOKO NORTH EAST LGA, ONDO STATE ON THE 17TH OF SEPTEMBER, 2019

Protocols,

I am so delighted to be in Akokoland today especially among the good and ever resilient People of Auga-Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government Area.

I can relate passionately with the journey of this community so far especially in areas of socio-economic and human capital development due to the similarities shared by my hometown, Emeabiam in Imo State.
The issue of marginalization is always the focus of discussion at meetings and various developmental forums when communities like ours gather. Therefore, it is a fact if I say I know where the shoe pinches.
Auga Akoko is a town located at the North-East of Ikare with an estimated population of 3000 mostly involved in farming activities. They are known to be producers of Cocoa, Coffee, Yam, Cashew and Cassava.
It is a multi-religious community made up of two towns namely Oke-imole and Oke-Igbagbo which are predominantly muslims and Christians respectively.
Now to the reason for this visit, I conceived and launched an initiative in 2017 known as Back-to-School. This initiative is geared towards encouraging teachers and students to take teaching and learning processes seriously at the beginning and throughout every academic session.
I had also previously visited Fiwasaye Secondary School, Akure and Stella Maris College, Okitipupa in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
Auga community grammar school was purposively selected for this visit to ascertain the level of our commitment towards education in our rural communities.
What can we say about our performance? Are we still interested in our rural communities? Are we not running away from our heritage? We must deliberately develop interest in our communities; knowing fully well that nobody fell from the sky.
I am informed that Auga community is in two locations of Auga Oke-imole and Auga Oke-igbagbo, and that practitioners of both the Christian and Muslim religions co-exist peacefully as they are also interrelated by birth.
Both towns must cooperate jointly, working towards the progress of Auga as a whole. The elite most especially should constitute an all-embracing Community Development Committee in order to speak with one voice and attract sustainable development projects like the established Cattle Ranch to the community.
No quarter or section of the community must be left behind in seeking ways to develop the community. Every input from both the young and old, men and women, the educated and those without formal education would be required in achieving the desired goals of the community.
Discrimination or marginalization in any form must not be tolerated, as these are traits that act as brick walls to the development of any community or society. I thank you all for the warm reception accorded me and members of my entourage.
I do hope to receive positive feedback on my advice to the community in areas of community mobilization and engagement.

Thank you all and God bless
God bless Auga-Akoko
God bless Akoko North East LGA
God bless the Sunshine state
