An Old Students’ Association of Oyemekun  Grammar School Akure(OGSA) has urged government to partner with the stakeholders in revamping educational school system in Nigeria .

Dr Olaoye  Adegoke, National President of OGSA, made the calls during a press conference herald at the 65th anniversary of the school on Tuesday in Akure.

Adegoke, who was represented by Mr Olugbenga Fabilola, vice president of the association, said that it had become imperative for government to partner with major stakeholders to address dilapidated infrastructure and improve standard of education in public secondary schools.

” OGSA will  not fail in its duty by asking government to look into areas where the school system ails critically.

“It is high time  government realised that it cannot fund education alone. The resources available to it and other competing demands should encourage government to seek radical structural education financial options.

“The facilities we have on ground are old and there are given way therefore government needs to caution  itself on free service  that  will not deliver efficiency and quality.

“Government needs to partner with parents’ teachers’ associations(PTA),old students’ association, philanthropist,” he said.

According to him, some schools should be returned to willing original owners at mutually beneficial terms.

He added that government should caution people on encroaching school land in tackling insecurity in a school environment, saying that lives of innocent students and teachers should not be put at risk.

Adegoke said it was disheartening that the encroached was approved by government officials.

The national president decried abolition of boarding school system which he said had turn out to become drawback for the education sector.

“A lot is learnt in boarding school that has impacted positively on its beneficiaries,he.said.

Adegoke, therefore, appreciated those that have passed through the school for maintaining its brand of handwork, courage and indomitable stance of spirit.

Appreciating the association, Mr Akingbesote Rotimi, the school Senior Prefect, who spoke on behalf of students promised to imbibe culture of discipline and hard work by not tainting the farm of the school.
