The National leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has extolled the sterling leadership virtues of Pa Reuben Fasoranti who is the leader of Afenifere, the Pan Yoruba Socio-cultural Organization.

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu told reporters shortly after a closed door meeting with the Afenifere leader in Akure, the Ondo State capital that he had come to visit Pa Reuben Fasoranti being a great leader of the Yoruba race and whose leadership qualities he had admired.

“He has been a great leader in his youth and time. He is ageing gracefully and his intellect is still very intact. I have come to seek his advice on a number of issues, understanding and prayers,” he said.

While responding to questions on the 2019 Presidential election, the National leader flanked by the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, denied the endorsement of the President Muhammadu Buhari as the sole candidate of APC for the 2019 Presidential elections which was reportedly done by some APC Governors.

The politician said the governors could not appropriate the power of endorsement to themselves.

The APC leader who was a former Senator and former governor of Lagos State assured that the party would follow due process in the choice  of its Presidential candidate for  the 2019 elections adding that President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of APC were on the same page on constitutional democracy.

“Buhari is a believer in the rule of law. If you follow the constitutional procedures of APC, individual or group opinion doesn’t really matter at his stage” he said.

Describing such moves as preemptive, when the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was yet to announce guidelines for the polls; Senator Tinubu maintained that whoever would fly the party’s flag at the polls, would emerge through credible primaries.

Asiwaju Tinubu who was accompanied on the visit by the former governor of Osun State who was the interim Chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande and the National Vice Chairman, Southwest, of APC, Chief Pius Akinyelure; described President Buhari as a believer in due process and the rule of law.

“The Buhari I know, believes in the rule of law. We wanted him even before the last convention and primary of the party and Akeredolu is here standing with me, he was not the governor then, he was one of the leading delegates that voted properly and Buhari was a clear winner.

“But if the national body of APC, National Executive Council, NEC, and all of us as members now gather together and endorse Buhari as our single candidate, we will not be violating INEC regulations or our own constitution.

“Buhari has not excluded anybody and does not infringe on anybody’s ambition”,he said.

He however said there were still lots of grounds to cover, apparently in terms of delivery by the APC controlled Federal Government to win the hearts of Nigerian electorate ahead of the 2019 General Elections.

Earlier the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN had described the visit of the APC National leader as heartwarming to the people of Ondo State.

He said despite the fact that the visit was a private one, he expressed happiness that a lot of people turned out at the Akure airport to welcome the APC National leader and his entourage to the Sunshine State.

The governor, his Deputy Hon Agboola Ajayi; Acting Chairman of APC in Ondo State, Engineer Ade Adetimehin; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale; State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Yemi Olowolabi; State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Mr Donald Ojogo, and their counterparts in the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Hon. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye and that of the Ministry of Natural Resources , Hon Rasheed  Badmus; Constitutional Lawyer and Chieftain of APC, Dr.Tunji Abayomi ,Market Women and several other personalities made it to the Akure Airport.
