The wife of Ondo State governor, Mrs Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu has enjoined wives of traditional rulers and other stakeholders to support, promote and champion efforts towards the improvement of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent, Health + Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) in their various communities.

The wife of the governor was speaking in Akure, the Ondo State capital while meeting with wives of traditional rulers and other stakeholders at a meeting tagged “Olori connection.”
The meeting had in attendance wives of traditional rulers in all the six local government areas of Ondo central senatorial district, wives of chairmen of local government caretaker committees, Women leaders, medical professionals, Religious leaders, top government functionaries among others.
Mrs Akeredolu said “Olori connection” is an intervention programme in response to a joint commitment signed by wives of state governors to do their best to improve the appalling statistics in regards of maternal health care, infant mortality, nutrition among others.
While saying “there is a vast untapped human resources in all communities that has not been utilised,” the wife of the governor maintained that a way would be fashioned out to engage people at the grassroots for data collection especially, birth registration.
Stressing that registration of birth is critical in national development, Mrs Akeredolu said palaces would be used as collection centres for birth registration.
“Take for instance if a woman gives birth, after 7 days, the baby is named. Then, she will take the baby to the Akowe Abiye in that community where all necessary details will be taken.”
“It is the duty of Akowe Abiye to take the filled forms to Olori who in turn takes it to the National Population Commission for issuance of original birth certificate and also for records in the local government areas, and such data will give direction as to what kind of intervention is needed in that particular area.” Mrs Akeredolu explained.
Highlight of the “Olori Connection” initiative was the signing of commitment forms by the wives of traditional rulers to champion healthcare services at the grassroots.
The RMNCAH+N is an initiative of the wife of Nigerian President, Mrs Aisha Buhari to improve the indices regarding maternal health care, infant health care, nutrition among others.
