In commemoration of this year’s celebration of International Day of Rural women marked globally to highlight the important roles rural women play in their various communities, local government across Ondo State for the first time in the history of the state joined others across the globe to observe the day with lectures and presentation of goodies bags by members of the Forum Of Wives Of State Officials (FOWOSO) to rural women.
Across Odigbo, Ifedore, Akure North, IleOluji Oke Igbo, Akoko South East and Ondo East, Chairmen and chairpersons of the different local government areas delivered the best wishes of the First Lady of Ondo State, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu- Akeredolu to women in their communities restating the need for them to play their part in nation building as they continue to be relevant even in their old age.
The event which provided the needed platform to reel out the good intentions of Arabinrin Akeredolu to womenfolk also featured presentation of gifts to the women.
Reacting, some of the benefiaries commended Mrs. Akeredolu for the gesture just as they acknowledged her passion for the development of women.
The International Day of Rural Women was first observed on 15 October 2008 and it was conceptualized by the General Assembly to recognize the critical role and contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty.
