Akeredolu paid over N30billion as salaries and wages in December – Olowolabi

The welfare of Civil Servants on the payroll of Ondo State Government is paramount to the Government of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
These were the words of the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Yemi Olowolabi during a Send-off programme for some retirees in the ministry.
Mr Olowolabi said ” In December, 2017,Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu approved over 30 billion naira as part payment for pension&salaries arrears in the state
.Arakunrin Akeredolu has prioritized the welfare of workers in the service of Ondo State”he noted.
He added that the Governor had the option of ploughing the money to road construction and other projects,but approved it for salaries and wages,in fulfilment of his promise to prioritise welfare of workers in the state by not owning them.
Mr.Olowolabi said,within one year of Arakunrin Akeredolu,two major roads were constructed and completed in Akure.The Iwalewa and Abusoro,ijoka roads,two in Idanre, 3 in Ose and 3 in Akoko including the notorious Oke Oka road in Akoko south-west.
He further stated that the dualization of Ijoka and Iju/Ita-Ogbolu through the border of Ikere in Ekiti State and the flyover in Ore would soon be flagged-off to mark one year of the present government.
The Information Commissioner added that government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding through Public Private Partnership with Wewood for afforestation in Ajebamidele axis in the Southern Senatorial District of the state where woods would be processed in large quantity for furniture production.
Mr.Olowolabi urged the retirees to key into the Agro-business initiative of the present government, aimed at alleviating poverty in the state by visiting the ministry of agriculture to learn more rather than venture into businesses for the sake of doing so.
He congratulated the celebrants and wish them success in their future endeavours.
According to him ” I met a great tradition in the Ministry,where retirees were being celebrated in grand style.The moment I was told, I key into it because we must continue to celebrate our senior citizens”
The Commissioner used the occasion to charge all Press Officers to be up and doing by reporting activities going on in their various beats and urged them to make use of the online platforms created by the Ministry .
The Permanent Secretary in the ministry,Dr.Deji Akinwalere,congratuated the celebrants,noting that many who started with them do not have the opportunity to end well as some have died or dismissed due to sharp practices.
The Permanent Secretary urged them to be grateful for the opportunity to contribute their quotas to the development of the state as well as be thankful to God who saw them through their service years.
He advised those still in the service to rededicate themselves to duty as they look forward to a day that they too would be celebrated.
Responding on behalf of the retirees, Mr. Sunday Akinduro who commended the Management and Staff of the Ministry for the honor done them equally thanked the State Government for the opportunity given them to contribute their best to the development of the state in the last 35 years.
