Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Wednesday, 27th June, 2018 met with workers in the state through the leadership of the Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) to discuss issues bothering on workers’ welfare.
The workers led by the JNC chairman, Opeyemi Oloniyo , were full of praises to the Governor for his commitment to regular payment of salary, timely promotion of workers, appointment of qualified Permanent Secretaries and the infrastructural development in the state.
Arakunrin Akeredolu assured the workers that government would pay their leave bonus as soon as the fortune of the state improved.
The governor sought the understanding of the workers. He added that the allocations accruing to the state is being used to offset workers salaries at the expense of infrastructural development which will benefit the large number of the people in the state who are not public servant.
Governor Akeredolu hinted that public Servants in the state constituted only 35% of the total population, saying, using all the state’s resources to cater for workers only is unfair to the rest of the people.
Earlier, the JNC Chairman, Oloniyo, appreciated the governor for his commitment to the welfare of workers in the state
He said ” On your first day of resumption, when you were addressing the public servants, you promised that you will not owe us salary, we thank you for keeping to your promise sir
“We appreciate you also, for the payment of salary arrears. You inherited Seven months salary arrears and you have paid four out of it. We thank you sir
“We also want to thank you, despite the precarious financial situation we found ourselves, you made our promotion exercise possible last year
“Let us also appreciate you for the appointment of permanent Secretaries, even those who do not know anybody in government was appointed Permanent Secretary. We must also thank you for the various infrastructural development in our state. “
