Provide Care and Apologies to the Kidnapped Children and Teachers… UN Envoy Jimoh Ibrahim Tells Seyi Makinde

Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Chairman of the 5th Committee on Budgetary and Administrative Matters, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, has advised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to uphold good governance at the local level.

The UN Envoy said Governor Makinde should show empathy and tender an apology to the children and their teachers for the government’s failure to provide adequate security in Oyo State.

While congratulating Nigerians on the release of the abducted school children, Senator Ibrahim also urged all state governments in Nigeria to prioritize security as a collective responsibility to ensure public safety.

Amb. Ibrahim was responding to Governor Makinde’s call for the UN to probe the Oyo kidnapping. He noted that the United Nations does not intervene in the internal affairs of member states, and that it is not a body for investigating domestic matters.

He advised the governor to support the affected children with free scholarships and quality education at all levels. The Oyo State Government should also provide support for the children of the teachers who died in the process. If the state needs financial assistance, it should let us know. Nigerians are ready to support the children.
