2019 Green Awards: Mrs Akeredolu Calls for Empowerment of the Girl Child

The wife of Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu has affirmed the need to empower more women most especially the girl child saying women constitute more about 50% of the population, thus they should not be left behind.

Mrs. Akeredolu made this assertion while delivering her keynote address at the 2019 Green Grant Awards organized by the Eleven Eleven Twelve Foundation in commemoration of this years World Environment Day held at Mauve 21 Events Centre, Ibadan.

Mrs. Akeredolu who used the opportunity to affirm that through her BEMORE Empowered Initiative, over 1,000 girls have been trained in ICT and Solar Technology, said there was the need for more women to come out and be represented on decision making tables saying in order for the nation to achieve that needed change, women who constitute about 50% of the population cannot be left behind.

The Convener of the Green Grant Award, Mrs. Adanna Kalejaiye in a chat with journalists said the programme was organized to recognize individuals who are making their mark through their quest to attain a much more healthier world.

Mrs. Kalejaiye however used the opportunity to urge the people to always weigh the consequences of their action on the environment stressing that everything thrown away as waste remains in the environment and largely affect the environment in return.

This year’s Green Grant Award also featured presentation of award to various categories of winners just as the grand prize winner carted away N1million.
