Nigeria Youths have been urged to embrace Technical Education to reduce unemployment in the Country.
The Ondo State Governor, Arakurin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, stated this at the 2nd National Conference on Technical and Vocational Education in Nigeria held at Cultural Center Kuto Abeokuta Ogun State.
Akeredolu who was represented by the Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology Mr Femi Agagu Said records have shown that Nigeria has a very high rate of unemployment and urgent and decisive steps must be taken to address it headlong.
Akeredolu said the attendant Consequences of unemployment are grave noting that it is pathetic to see the teaming youths roaming the Streets in search of white collar jobs that are Virtually None existent.
The Governor who lamented the failure of youths to embrace Technical Education system said for local industries to grow Technical and Vocational Education is a viable option.
Governor Akeredolu said the country should take a cue from Countries like China who recently rated graduates with technical skills above their contemporaries from conventional institutions with paper certificates .
Akeredolu who bemoaned the rates at which society underrated blue collar jobs called for attitudinal change to reduce unemployment noting that being a university graduate does not translate to automatic employment.
Highlight of the conference was the presentation of award of excellent to Mr Governor in recognition of his administration’s giant stride to develop the education sector and outstanding love for Technical and vocational Education
The Conference with the theme : Technical and Vocational Education in Nigeria : A Potent tool for poverty alleviation was jointly organized by the National Association of Technical and Vocational School Proprietors of Nigeria (NATEVOSPON)
